Summer's Happy Campers
By B.J. Roche, The Boston Globe
IN TOUCH: The usual protocol for the 350 campers at Camp Young Judaea in Amherst, N.H., is several weeks of little or no contact with mom and dad. But that was before Sept. 11. This year, the camp is using a Web site called Bunk1.com, which allows parents to send one-way e-mail to their kids and see pictures of the day's activities. About 150 camps around New England are using the service. Camp Young Judaea director Ken Kornreich says he gets 70 to 100 e-mails a day; camp staff prints them out and puts them in the kids' mailboxes. Everyone seems to like it, says Kornreich, adding: "It's a great tool for us, because if we're having problems with a kid, they get a letter from their parents the same day."
